The uses of radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems in different procedures are discussed. RFID systems consist of tags and chips that contain identifying and other reading devices that convey information from the tags to computers. Such systems are already in limited use and are being tested widely for applications involving the tracking of inventory from manufacturers to stores. The improvement in the technology and the reduction in the costs forms the core of networks that will handle many activities, and will make computing an unobtrusive, intuitive part of everyday life.
