摘要
The material commonly known as ''papyrus'' was in use as a writing material for about 4000 years. It was manufactured on a large scale in the form of sheets from the stem of a plant of the sedge family Cyperaceae Cyperus Papyrus. When completed, these sheets were stuck together to form rolls. There are two areas of interest so far, as adhesion is concerned; how the plant fibres were bonded together to form sheets, and how these sheets were joined into rolls. Contemporary accounts are not sufficient to define these issues, but various experimental work has shed some light upon them.
