Cyclin expression is completely suppressed at the site of crown root formation in the nodal region of the maize root mutant rtcs

摘要
The use of cyclins as molecular markers for the initiation of crown root primordia in maize was tested by performing in situ hybridisation experiments and RT-PCR in the relevant nodal parts of the stem region of crown root deficient mutant- and wildtype plants. It was found that all four cyclins tested are equally and highly specifically expressed in the primordia region of wildtype plants but are completely absent in the corresponding mutant tissue region, in contrast to the cyclin-dependent kinase cdc2 that was found to be present both in wildtype and mutant tissues. The results suggest that cyclin can be used as a molecular marker for crown root primordia formation.
