摘要
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of a compressive load of 0.092 MPa on the moisture content (MC) of oak (Quercus variabilis) blocks with sides of 40 mm in each direction under vacuum combined with radio-frequency heating. The largest difference (14%) in the MC between the load-free and the loaded specimens was found for the specimens loaded on their tangential section when drying time was 8 hours, 10 percent more than that found after a drying time of 40 hours. Thus, wood with different directions of grains, being compressively loaded, should be dried separately or unidirectionally during radio-frequency/vacuum drying in order to shorten the drying period and/or reduce the variation in MC.
