Hamstring injuries are quite common among the modern day athlete. The high recurrence rate and, at times, prolonged recovery associated with these injuries make them particularly challenging. Most low-grade strains are treated conservatively, whereas patients with complete ruptures off the ischium may benefit from surgical management, given the appropriate clinical setting. This article discusses the diagnosis and treatment of hamstring injuries as well as a review of the current literature and a suggested rehabilitation protocol following proximal hamstring repairs.
