Plasma rotation driven by alpha particles in a tokamak reactor

摘要
The possibility that fusion produced alpha particles will drive a significant amount of plasma rotation in a tokamak reactor is investigated. Orbit lost alphas and well confined alphas are both considered. Rotation large enough to help avoid magnetohydrodynamic instabilities, or rotational shear large enough to suppress turbulence, is shown to be impossible.
