In this article we review the management of benign and malignant adrenal tumors, with an emphasis on oncologic concerns. Concise, logical guidelines for the diagnosis and operative treatment of incidentalomas. aldosteronomas, adrenal Cushing syndrome, virilizing and feminizing adrenal tumors, isolated adrenal metastases, and adrenocortical carcinoma are provided. We also discuss the choice of optimal surgical approach for performing adrenalectomy (laparoscopic, open, hand-assist). (C) 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
