Increasing the throughput of an existing hydrogen plant

摘要
The demand for supplemental hydrogen production in refineries is growing significantly as environmental legislation concerning cleaner gasoline and diesel fuels is introduced. The main manufacturing method for this hydrogen uses the well-proven steam reforming process route. This article shows how advances in catalysts and technology can be applied to existing hydrogen plants in order to maximise throughput. Such retrofit options are generally more cost-effective than the construction of a new hydrogen plant. A case-by-case evaluation is recommended to determine the best options for a particular plant.
