Hyperkalemia secondary to a postobstructive uropathy manifesting as complete heart block in a hypertensive patient receiving multiple atrioventricular nodal blocking agents

Hyperkalemia is a life-threatening illness that can be difficult to diagnose because of a paucity of clear signs and symptoms. A high clinical suspicion is often necessary and an immediate electrocardiogram (ECG) needs to be reviewed assessing for electrocardiographic evidence of an elevated potassium level. We present an interesting case report of a patient being treated for hypertension, with multiple atrioventricular (AV) nodal blocking agents, who presents with symptomatic bradycardia. The patient with a paucity of urological complaints developed hyperkalemia secondary to postobstructive uropathy and renal tubular acidosis.
