The clinical impact of the Pier technique

The first description of intentional subintimal angioplasty provided a method which allowed recanalization of long occlusions, thereby avoiding the need of surgery. However, a number of radiologists who have tried the method in their centers have not always been successful. In view of this, it is pointed out that if the method is to be practiced in a center, a vascular surgeon should be available to deal with any complication that may arise.
