Immunotherapy for Alzheimer's disease:: attacking amyloid-β from the inside

摘要
Although extracellular A beta plaques are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease, it remains to be determined whether extracellular or intracellular A beta accumulation initiates the disease process. A recent paper from Gunnar Gouras' group showed that A beta antibodies lead to reduced intracellular AD levels in neurons via antibody internalization after binding to the A beta domain of amyloid precursor protein (APP) at the plasma membrane. This work suggests novel avenues for the immunotherapy of Alzheimer's disease.
