摘要
Infrared-visible sum-frequency generation can be used for vibrational spectroscopy. It is an ideal probe for surface or interfacial studies of media with inversion symmetry. It can also be used to probe polar ordering in a medium without inversion symmetry. With this technique, we have obtained several interesting results on water and ice: namely, the surface water structure is ice-like, no surface melting is evident at the quartz/ice interface and ice films grown on Pt(1 1 1) can be ferroelectric.
