摘要
The lymphatic system, once dismissed as a mere drainage network, the body's second circulation system is emerging as a crucial player in numerous diseases from cancer to asthma and as a vital part of the normal immune system. Two vascular endothelial growth factors, VEGF-C and VEGF-D were discovered to play a key role in the lymphatic system. Following this, scientists identified a makerfor the lymphatic system, a protein called LYVE-1. As a result of these discoveries, researchers are trying to intervene in its activities to reduce the spread of tumors, to boost the efficiency of vaccines and to treat lymphedema.
