Confinement of C60 in an extended saddle shaped nickel(II) macrocycle

Saddle shaped (5,14-dihydro-2, 3, 6, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17-octamethyldibenzo[b,i][1,4,8,11]tetraazacyclotetradecine)nickel(II), Ni(OMTAA), acts as a divergent receptor molecule with C-60 forming a 1 : 1 complex in solution and in the solid state, isolated as [Ni(OMTAA)C-60]. 2CS(2). The extended supramolecular array is based on linear chains of close contact C-60 molecules [fullerene ... fullerene centroids 10.03(1) and 10.04(1) Angstrom], and linear chains of pi-stacked alternating molecules of C-60 and Ni(OMTAA) with adjacent chains running in opposite directions.
