Mechanical properties of rapidly solidified Mg-Zn alloys

摘要
Mg-Zn alloys were rapidly solidified and aged at 423 K. Their mechanical properties were studied at room temperature. Both hardness and tensile strength increased with increasing the Zn concentration. Aging did not show noticeable effects on mechanical properties. Vickers hardness of 100 to 200 HV was obtained for Mg- (2-20) mol% Zn alloys. Tensile tests were performed in Mg-2, 4, and 8 mol% Zn alloys and their yield stresses were found to be 261, 453, and 542 MPa, respectively. High strength may be attributed to a fine microstructure produced by rapid solidification.
