Minimally invasive approaches have become increasingly popular in esophageal and foregut surgery. These are advanced procedures requiring a unique set of skills. Freedom of movement is limited with standard laparoscopic instruments, and visualization during the procedure is flat and two-dimensional. The computer-enhanced telemanipulator surgical device addresses some of these limitations of standard laparoscopy. Complex foregut procedures requiring laparoscopic suturing and knot tying (gastric bypass) or enhanced visualization (Heller myotomy) may be ideally suited to the application of this new technical device.
