The Celiac Disease Consensus Group considered that there was adequate evidence to support the use of capsule endoscopy as a prognostic test in patients who have treated and previously confirmed celiac disease who develop alarm symptoms. We also consider that capsule endoscopy may have a future role as an initial diagnostic test for confirming atrophy in patients who are positive for tissue transglutaminase or endomysial antibodies. Capsule endoscopy could at present be used as an alternative to biopsy in selected patients who are unwilling or unable to undergo EGD for confirmation of villous atrophy. © Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart · New York.
