As the launching of the International Space Station draws closer, NASA is winding down its partnership with the Russians on their orbital station Mir. Shuttle-Mir is designed to teach everyone how to cooperate on lengthy international space stations. While there are those who believe that the lessons learned from the Shuttle-Mir program can be directly applied to operating in space with an international partner, others believe that the only knowledge gained from the program is in logistics management which is not enough to justify the large financial and human resources investments made by the US.
