Development of continuous stiffness measurement technique for composite magnetic tapes

摘要
The stiffness of composite magnetic tapes was measured by using a continuous stiffness measurement (CSM) technique. The magnetic tapes is compose of a polymer strip coated with a thin layer of magnetic coating which consists of magnetic particles and head cleaning agents suspended in a polymer binder. The contact stiffness of uniform materials is found to be linearly proportional to contact depth. The contact stiffness of the magnetic tape's substrate, magnetic layer and backcoat increase with a decreasing slope with contact depth. This result suggests that various components of the magnetic tape exhibit graded material properties.
