Influence of mechanical activation on TiC self propagating high temperature synthesis.

摘要
Vibrating milled Ti/C mixture mostly consists in aggregates composed of Ti nanocrystallites and amorphous carbon. In addition, Ti nanocrystallites also contains a large density of lattice imperfections. It is demonstrated that the reaction performed with vibrating milled reactant is very fast compared to the reaction performed with turbula mixed Ti/C powders. Such a result may find its origin in the uniformity of the vibrating milled mixture and/or in the stored energy in the Ti nanocrystallites which may reduce the activation energy.
