Four new attractants to males of the tephritid fruitfly Bacterocera carambolae, trans-3,4-dimethoxycinnamyl alcohol, trans-3,4-dimethoxycinnamyl acetate, p-methoxybenzyl alcohol and 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol, together with the common attractants eugenol and methyl eugenol, were identified from the spadix of Spathiphyllum cannaefolium. The chemical structures of trans-3,4-dimethoxycinnamyl alcohol and its acetate were established by gas chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopy.
