Predicting the rate of thermal decomposition of dolomite

Experiments with a high grade, medium crystalline dolomite were carried out to predict its rate of thermal decomposition using a commercial thermogravimetric (TGA) apparatus. The experimental TGA curve demonstrates the start of its decomposition at about 600 °C and the end at about 760 °C. Repeated runs, wherein the sample mass and flow rate of entrainer gas were slightly altered, provided almost identical TGA curves. Degrees of decomposition of dolomite were predicted for different times of reaction and temperature of practical interests using regression equations.
