Influence of Hydrophobic Coating of Gas Diffusion Layers on the Performance and Water Transport inside PEFC

摘要
In this paper, we present experimental results about the influence of hydrophobic coatings (PTFE) inside gas diffusion layers of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFC). Four different cell configurations with different PTFE-loadings of the anode and cathode GDL are characterized with high resolution neutron radiography combined with a pulsed gas analysis (PGA). The experiments demonstrate that the coating level on the anode side does not have any significant influence on the cell performance, whereas the coating on the cathode side has a substantial impact on the performance and water accumulation.
