Polyol mediated synthesis of oxide particle suspensions and their application

Concentrated, colloidally stable suspensions of various oxides (e.g. ZnO:F; Al2O3, Bi2O3, Fe2O3, MgAl2O4, CoAl2O4) are prepared with the polyol method. The size of the resulting spherical oxide particles can be adjusted within limits of about 30 to 250 nm. The materials are crystalline right after preparation or after brief post-heating. Containing individual oxide particles: The polyol suspensions are well suited to coat planar as well as mon-planar substrates. This is shown in case of a glass plate and a phosphor powder. Both substrates are covered with a thin and very homogeneous oxide particle coating. (C) 2001 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
