The use of chemical activation of cork waste by potassium carbonate to prepare activated carbon was discussed. Two types of impregnation were used: physical impregnation to mix cork powder with carbonate and impregnation with the solution to heat the mixture till evaporation. The potentiality of the materials towards purification of methane was determined to explore different methods for chemical activation. The adsorption isotherms of methane, ethane, nitrogen and carbon dioxide were found to be in comparison with the original data for adsorption.
