Alternate measurement of the viscosity peak in heneicosanoic acid monolayers

The properties of complex fluids are influenced by the structure on both mesoscopic levels, in the form of domains. Langmuir monolayers present a opportunity to study the relative importance of the mesoscopic and microscopic degrees of freedom. It is possible to directly observe the dynamics on the mesoscopic scale. Langmuir monolayers consist of amphiphilic molecules. Results on viscosity measurements of a particular phase, the L2 phase in haneicosanoic acid are presented. It is shown that the peak in η of C21 acid in the L2 phase corresponds to the peak in G″.
