摘要
Atherosclerosis is common in patients who have chronic kidney disease, with the lesions typically associated with marked vascular calcification (VC). This article briefly summarizes the current knowledge regarding (1) the mechanisms responsible for VC and its relationship to the atherosclerotic process (with a focus in uremic patients) and (2) the detection of VC and its prevalence in patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease.
