Emission of interface modes by dipoles in photonic crystals

摘要
The emission of interface polaritons by electric dipoles is considered for dipoles embedded in photonic crystals. It is shown that in a one-dimensionally periodic photonic crystal the interface oscillations form frequency bands and, via a d . E interaction, they provide strong relaxation channels whenever the dipole frequency Omega lies within the bands. Dipole relaxation rates are displayed for varying dipole position and also when Omega is varied for a given dipole position. Band edge effects associated with the interface modes are pointed out and discussed. (C) 1997 Academic Press Limited.
