Distributions of moments of single-molecule spectral lines and the dynamics of amorphous solids

摘要
We propose and demonstrate a method for deriving information about the dynamics of amorphous solids. We show that in a glassy matrix at low temperatures, when single-molecule excitation spectra have complicated shapes, moments are more appropriate for describing these spectra than the usual concept of linewidths. By studying the first four moments of the excitation spectra of individual molecules (tetra-tert-butylterrylene) in a polymer matrix (polyisobutylene) at 2 K we derived information about the interaction of chromophores and two-level systems on a microscopic level.
