摘要
The pediatric patient with a gastrostomy or an intestinal ostomy continues to be a challenge to the health care provider. The primary care pediatrician's role is vital in providing quality care with appropriate intervention, prevention, and management for routine problems, patient/family teaching, support, provisions for services and supplies, and referrals to the pediatric surgeon when necessary. Knowledge of surgical techniques, care and management, and trouble shooting for potential complications will prevent many problems. The information in this article assists the pediatrician and practitioner to appreciate the needs and concerns of patients and families.
