Encephalitis outbreak finds Indian officials unprepared

Uttar Pradesh state government in India were criticized for their lack of preparedness which lead to an outbreak of Japanese encephalitis in the region. Hundreds of young children died from the mosquito borne virus that could have been prevented if vaccines from China (based on a weakened virus strain) were approved and distributed when the disease was first detected.
