Two German translations of the self-report questionnaires (a) Stress-Related Growth Scale (SRGS; Park, Cohen & Murch, 1996) and (b) Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PGI, Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1996) are introduced and statistically tested. The 15-item short version of SRGS is unidimensional whereas the PGI comprises five factors/subscales: New Possibilities, Relating to Others, Personal Strength, Appreciation of Life, and Spiritual Change. The analyzed sample (N = 141; M-age = 37.5 years, SD = 17.8, range 19-78 years) comprises subsamples of adult university students with severe life experiences ana patients of clinics for internal medicine. Results showed sufficient degrees of reliability, factorial and discriminant validity, supporting earlier findings with the English original versions. The two personal growth questionnaires are highly intercorrelated. The research and clinical use of the PGI is recommended for theoretical reasons and because of its five-subscale structure. Finally, open questions regarding further validation of the questionnaires are dicussed.
