Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are advanced electrochemical reactors operating at a high temperature. SOFCs are presently under development for a variety of electric power generation applications with high energy conversion efficiency. This paper reviews the science and technology of SOFCs with emphasis on discussion of their component materials. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
