Distention media are essential in operative hysteroscopy to ensure good visualization within the uterine cavity Carbon dioxide, dextran-70, glycine, sorbitol, mannitol, saline, and Ringer's lactate solution have all been used, but are associated with difficulties that prevent their use with instruments that achieve appropriate current densities. Three new distention media are now available that correct problems associated with the earlier products.
