A thermoeconomic optimization analysis is presented yielding a simple algebraic formula for estimating the optimum HPHE effectiveness for energy recovery applications. The P-1-P-2 method is used in the present study, together with the epsilon-NTU method, for thermoeconomic analysis of a heat pipe heat exchanger, HPHE, of a noncondensing fluid type, i.e. employing water and air.
