摘要
The role of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Residency Review Committees (RRCs) in governing the education of residents has increased substantially during the past 25 years. 1,2 Increased requirements have resulted in many improvements and innovations in residency training. However, this trend has inevitably diminished the role of faculty in determining the structure of training at their own institutions. The current ACGME residency requirements restrict medical educators from responding to the dramatic changes that are occurring in the practice of internal medicine. The widening chasm between practice and educational requirements are detailed and suggestions for improved alignment are outlined in this commentary.
