This editorial introduces and provides an overview of a Special Issue dedicated to the 9th conference Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction - PRES 2006. It contains eleven selected papers covering various field of thermal engineering focusing on recent development in heat integration, energy management, CO2 capture and sequestration, and various aspects of heat transfer and its enhancement, optimisation and fouling minimisation.
