Two new studies (Penheiter et al. [2005] and Sheldon et al. [2005], this issue of Molecular Cell) reveal a novel connection between transcription and pre-mRNA processing: the Paf1 elongation complex is involved in the 3' end formation of polyadenylated and nonpolyadenylated RNA polymerase II transcripts.
