Crack spacing as a function of load for thin silica films on a polymeric substrate

摘要
This paper examines the spatial distribution of Vickers indentation-induced cracks in thin silica films of constant thickness on a compliant polymeric substrate. The mean indentation crack spacing in the film is described very well by the simple, nondimensional, empirical expression <Lambda>= chi(m), where <Lambda> is a nondimensional function of mean crack spacing and chi is a nondimensional function of the applied load.
