Embedded systems under shear: Relationship between shear-induced modes and frictional behavior

摘要
We study the relationship between macroscopic observables and microscopic modes generated in a monolayer embedded between two rigid prates, the upper one of which is externally driven. We investigate the frictional response of the driven system and its dependence on the lateral-normal coupled motions in terms of "hearons", which are shear-nduced collective modes of the embedded system. It is proposed that analysis of the normal motion of the top plate might provide indications for these collective modes in actual experiments, and that frictional properties can be modified by changing their characteristics.
