EPR of a monoclinic Gd3+-center in MgNb2O6 single crystals

摘要
An electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) investigation of trivalent gadolinium impurities in MgNb2O6 single crystals is reported. The intense resonance lines in the EPR spectrum are assigned to a unique center produced by incorporation of Gd3+ impurities at the Mg2+ sites of the lattice. The EPR spectrum of this center is satisfactorily explained by means of a spin Hamiltonian of monoclinic symmetry and spin S = 7/2, for which all non-zero g-matrix components and fine-structure B-n(m) parameters have been determined by means of a least-squares fitting procedure. Moreover, a comparison with different Gd3+ as well as other rare-earth centers observed in LiNbO3 has been carried out. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
