Magnetic phenomena of cobalt on Cu(111)

摘要
In this contribution we report on electronic and magnetic phenomena of cobalt on Cu(111). The cobalt films on Cu(111) have been prepared at room temperature and analyzed mainly with Auger and angle-resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. We employed the technique of magnetic circular dichroism in valence band photoemission from the cobalt and copper 3d bands. Using highly circularly polarized synchrotron radiation our ultraviolet photoemission data clearly show a remanant dichroic, i.e, a ferromagnetic, effect above a certain photon energy. The onset of MCDAD is discussed with respect to a non-relativistic cobalt band structure calculation of Moruzzi and coworkers.
