Large T-linear specific heat of NdGa2 below 1 K

摘要
We have measured the temperature dependence of the specific heat (C) on a NdGa2 single crystal down to 100 mK in the magnetic field B along [1 2 0] axis up to 8 T to investigate the low-energy excitation in the incommensurate antiferromagnetic (AF) phase. Below about 0.5 K, C/T shows a largely enhanced value of 150 mJ/K(2)mol in B = 0 T. In the field-induced ferromagnetic (F) phase above 2 T, the value of C/T is suppressed to 10 mJ/K(2)mol. In correlation, large negative magnetoresistance (Delta rho/rho(0) similar to -40%) is observed. Fluctuating Nd magnetic moments around the nodes in the incommensurate AF phase would be a possible origin for the observed large C/T.
