摘要：

An examination of the eras of system development and their feasibilities are discussed. It is found that today's 'post-methodology' era involves methodologies that can be viewed by developers as outdated and inappropriate for rapid development, Web applications, and other current requirements. The characteristics, advantages, and the disadvantages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach, the Object Oriented (OO) approach, incremental and external development are also discussed. The current swirl of diversity is also found to signal a return to the days of ad hoc systems development, lack of formal methodology, and consequent increase in failure.
