This editorial concerns the appropriateness of limited myelotomy (lesions of the midline dorsal columns) for pelvic visceral pain, an issue raised by two recent papers (Berkley and Hubscher, 1995a; Hirshberg et al., 1996) and a recent editorial (Gybels, 1997).
