The one-pot, three-component condensation of benzil, benzonitrile derivatives and primary amines on the surface of silica gel under solvent-free conditions and microwave irradiation provided tetrasubstituted imidazoles in high yields. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
