The rattler effect in thermoelectric clathrates studied by inelastic neutron scattering

摘要
We have studied the phonon density of states (PDOS) of thermoelectric type I clathrates using time-of-flight inelastic neutron scattering (INS). The open framework structure of clathrates contains rattling guest atoms, and this results in a remarkable low thermal conductivity. Powder samples of Sr8Ga16Ge30, n- and p-type Ba8Ga16Ge30, have been studied. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
