Amphetamine-induced locomotor stereotypy in rats is reduced by a D-1 but not a D-2 antagonist

Amphetamine produces locomotor stereotypy (repetitive routes of locomotion) in an open field. In this research we tested the ability of the D-1 antagonist SKF 83566 and the D-2 antagonist sulpiride to block the locomotor stereotypy produced by 2 mg/kg amphetamine. SKF 83566 decreased amphetamine-induced locomotor stereotypy; sulpiride had no consistent effect on amphetamine-induced locomotor stereotypy. There was no evidence that either antagonist potentiated the effect of the other. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Inc.
