Composition dependent ductility in the amorphous Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be alloy system

摘要
This work maps the bending ductility versus composition of amorphous alloys in the Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be system. Alloys with a Zr:Ti ratio of 5.67:1 show higher ductility and thermal stability over a wider composition range than those with a Zr:Ti ratio of 3:1. The loss of ductility occurs in alloys that have compositions near those of quasicrystal or intermetallic phases, which form in the amorphous matrix upon cooling. (c) 2006 Acta Materialia Inc.
