Atomistic studies of intrinsic crack-tip plasticity

摘要
Atomistic simulations of the crack-tip configuration in single crystals of various metals and intermetallics were carried out using molecular statics and embedded-atom method (EAM). In some cases, dislocations emitted were observed to move far away from the tip. However, in other cases, the dislocations emitted remained in the immediate vicinity of the crack tip after emission. In most of the cases studied, the fracture process occurs as a combination of dislocation emission and microcleavage portions.
